College Overview

Smt A Shyamala Devi Degree College for Women is a place for making future in Higher Education for economically weaker sections after intermediate. The college has a noble objective of fullest development and empowerment of women through education.

Smt Shyamala Devi was former Secretary of Telangana Yuvathi Mandali for nearly 49 years. She was the force behind the development of various institutions. She was instrumental in starting our Degree College and hence the college is named after her.

The College is equipped with excellent infrastructure facilities like 13 lecture halls, 5 laboratories at present. All are spacious, well ventilated and well equipped. The library is furnished with more than 2000 reference and textbooks. Our computer lab has 80 systems in all. We have LAN and Internet facilities with over 50 UPS’s.

Commerce lab and English language lab are other additions during the year. The college has permanent affiliation from 2007-08 onwards. We are registered under 2F of the UGC Act. Nearly all the staff members are selected by duly constituted Selection Committee and approved by Osmania University.

The college is registered with TASK(Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge) an initiative of Government of Telangana to impart training to ON-JOB related skills to make the students employable. Our staff attend training courses and they, in turn, train our students.

Smt. A Shyamala Devi Degree College for Women works under the aegis of Telangana Yuvatha Mandali – a society started in the year 1935 on a very auspicious day, “Vijaya Dasami”. A strong conviction of society at that time and to this day is the emancipation of women, socially and economically through education. Towards this objective Mandali diversified its activities. A Sishu Vihar was started in the year 1955, later a working women’s hostel in the year 1958, a full fledged High School in the year 1968-69, Junior College in the year 1995 and Degree college in the year 1998, MBA and Pharmacy courses in the year 2009. There is a steady increase in the strength of the college. The college has sent 19 batches of students in commerce and science so far. The current strength of the college is nearly 360 with over 87% of pass percentage

  4. Department of Microbiology, Biotechnology and Chemistry conducted guest lecture by Dr. A. Madhuri on Non-Renewable resources and their impact on Environment on 13th August 2019
  5. Department of Microbiology, Biotechnology and Chemistry conducted guest lecture by Dr. T. Swetha MS(OBG) on PCOD on 22nd August 2019
  6. Mrs. Shalini, Department of Mathematics attended two days Workshop on Numerical Computations using Matlab at Little Flower Degree College, Uppal, Hyderabad on 6th and 7th September 2019
  7. Mrs. Swathi Sree, Lecturer in Computer Science attended Two-day National level Faculty Enrichment Programme on “Smart Teaching and Learning Techniques” at St Ann’s College for Women, Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad on 18th & 19th December 2018
  8. Mrs. Swathi Sree, Lecturer in Computer Science attended One-day National Workshop on “Product and Technology Incubation” at St Pious X Degree and PG College for Women, Hyderabad on 20th December 2018
  9. Mr. K. Govind, Lecturer in Computer Science attended Faculty Development Programme on “Evolution Technologies in Telecommunications” at Aurora’s  Degree and PG College, Hyderabad on  29th December 2018
  10. Mrs. T Deepthi and Mrs. T. Shailaja participated in faculty development programme on “Research Methodology” held at IIMC, Hyderabad
  11. A Two day National Seminar was attended by Mrs. T. Deepthi and Afshan Jabeen on “Advances in Finance ans Marketing” at Commerce Department, Osmania University on 29th & 30th Aug 2019
  12. Mrs. T. Shailaja and Afshan Jabeen along with students of B.Com II Year visited SEBI on 4th Sept 2019 to create Awareness on “Working of SEBI & NSE”
  13. Mrs. Deepa Naik and Mrs. T. Deepthi attended Teacher’s Congruence at St Pious Degree & PG College conducted ICSI Hyderabad Chapter. The Conference was conducted on topic “Empowering Educators” as a mark of Teacher’s Day Week from 5th to 12th Sept 2019

The following rules are to be followed by the Parents/Guardians strictly

  1. The Parent/Guardians are hereby informed to take full responsibility for their wards and see that their children follow the college rules given in the college prospectus.
  2. At the time of registration of the forms, they have to submit two self-addressed postcards along with the application form.
  3. At the time of admission Parent/Guardians have to provide permanent residential address and office address and phone number. In case of no phone number, any other nearest available contact number should be given for any correspondence from the college. Likewise, the Parent/Guardians should be present with their wards at the time of admission and counseling of the wards without fail.
  4. Parent/Guardians should compulsorily sign the progress report of their wards and duly sent within 2 days from the date of issue of the report.
  5. The Parent/Guardians have to attend the Parent – Lecturer meetings without fail. For the convenience of the Parent/Guardians, the college meeting will be held on every 3rd Saturday of August, November and January respectively. Therefore the Parent/Guardians should make it convenient to attend the meeting without fail to know the progress of their wards.
  6. The counseling classes will be held every month, and the students should attend the classes and discuss any problem pertaining to the college or any other personal problems.
  7. Regarding the shortage of attendance or any other matter, no complaints will be entertained at the fag end of the academic year.
  8. The Parent/Guardians are permitted to meet their children in case of emergency(only during college hours) with the prior permission of the Principal or the In-charge(in the absence of Principal). In case the Parent/Guardians are unable to come, due to any reason, brother/sister of the students may be allowed provided they get the authorization letter from the Parent/Guardians.
  9. In case of any excursion trip arranged by the college, the Parent/Guardians should personally meet the Principal to sign the ‘No objection letter’ their wards will not be permitted to go for the excursion under any circumstances.
  10. Fee Challan should be submitted in the college  after paying the fees in Bank of Baroda, Barkatpura Branch.

As a part of social responsibility, the NSS wing was started in the year 2007.

In connection with NSS on 10th & 11th January,2019 – “Youth for Making voilence free Society” was conducted in college for two days

On  31st October, 2018 – on the occasion of “National Unity Day” Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was conducted in college

On 2nd October,2018 – on the occasion of “Gandhi Jayanthi” Students participated “Swachhata Hi Seva” at Osmaina general Hospital

On 1st October as part of Health Camp, We conducted blood grouping in college

On 24th September,2018 as part of Health and Hygine Programme, We conducted General Safety & Security of Women & Menstrual hygine

On 24th July, 2018 as part of Telangana Haritha Haram was conducted in college

On 30th June,2018 – Swachh Bharat Programme was conducted in college

On 21st June,2018 – International Yoga Day was conducted at college level
